Sometimes you just have to go Black & White

Nowadays, when technology is able to reproduce reality in images at a resolution higher then what our eyes can perceive and with colours more vibrant than any tropical bird ever existed, black and white images are almost entirely devoted to artworks.
Or, let's say, artworks wannabe.....
In fact, who never tried to make an insignificant picture more interesting just turning it into a B&W one?
Or to cover up some completely off exposure?

On the other hand, sometimes, I found myself turning photos in B&W just because the the day was completely grey, and the light so dull that it almost hurt to look at those photo...
Recently, while in Italy for few days, I ended up in one of those days when the sun simply won't open its passage in between the extremely thick layer of clouds, and B&W was the only solution...

Even this fisherman looked depressed by the light
Despite the light, I went around a bit and I arrived in Ispra, at the Fornaci.
The complete uniform and flat light, at the same time, offered a perfect background for silhouette photos
Artistic or not, I have to admit that these photos are quite sad... but honestly, do you thing they would have looked better in colours?
