You might already be familiar with my favorite weekly activity: catch a plane and go somewhere.
Lately the final destination as been almost exclusively the Lake Maggiore area in the north of Italy. You might think that after a while - and several years lived in there - there's almost nothing left for me to discover. But you're wrong!
Last weekend we actually booked a table n a very small restaurant up on the mountains, following the suggestion of a friend. I really didn't know the place, but I thought it was worth a try.
After booking the table I became pretty curious and I checked the place up on TripAdvisor. Yes, I know, you should do the opposite, first check and then book, but this time it went like this!
And I must admit I am extremely glad that I didn't care about the comments I've found on TripAdvisor! Mainly they were all saying like [...] great view but the food is nothing special. Or also food is just average, service could be improved and too expensive for what you eat.
Due to some dietary restriction when I called to book I explained I needed gluten-free food, and the man on the phone promised me he was going to do all the necessary. When we arrived they had prepared a list with all the ingredients and products they had used to prepare our food! Honestly, this was the first time ever it happened to me!
Their menu is quite short and simple but being honest I couldn't ask for anything more.
They've some starters - after which I could have already stop eating... - two first dishes (risotto with mushrooms and pasta with meat sauce) and a main course: polenta served with 4 different kinds of meat!
We avoided the first dishes - luckily due to the amount of food that we got! - and had only starters and main course while looking down on the lake.
The final bill? If it would have been even double than what they asked I think I couldn't have complained to much! So considering the location, the carefulness they put at preparing the food, the food itself and the service (according to me more than friendly!) I must disagree with all the people that said it was too pricy!
The whole neighborhood, completely in the forest, is very cute, and after lunch we had a short walk nearby.
This was my lucky and nice sourprise for the weekend!
Let's see if there is anything coming up for the next days!
