While I'm preparing and arranging a quite major project - of which I'm not going to reveal any detail for the moment - I find the miimum time to post few pictures and a very short description of the Sacro Monte di Varese.
While in Italy during the last summer break, I went for the first time up to this little mountain just outside Varese city. yes, I know, all the time I've spent in the region during my life and not a single time I went up there....
Anyway, as you might recall, this summer hasn't been the most sunny and warm in history, but the day we decided to hike up there the weather was pretty decent. Of course, very cloudy and not extremely hot, but while walking the whole path up I managed to get completely soaked in sweat anyway!
The path is quite easy, very wide and very well taken care of. The objective? To reach those houses up there
Along the way there are all the via crucis chapels
as well as some gates marking the path
On one of the chapels I saw this weater consumed statue against the very cloudy sky: I immedialtely imagined to burn-off the sky giving the impression of a fram-less image of the statute in black and white
Getting almost at the top, you start having a quite great view over the Campo dei fiori natural park. The sky wasn't unfortunately very clear and blue, but you can still get the feeling
All the old houses up at the top are very cute and full of particular details: this one is engraved on the wooden window shutters of a little house just next to the path
And once up at the top you can really enjoy the quietness of the place and the great view on the Varese lake people in here have every day when they open their windows
So might you be around Varese and might you also be in the mood for an easy and panoramic walk, don't miss the Sacro Monte. Just be aware that there are very limited parking spots at the beginning of the path, so you should better either use public transportation from the city center or try to get there not during the weekends: it can get very very crowded!
