The day before leaving I was told to bring along my tripod because, apparently, all the cherry trees were fully blossomed, giving the opportunity to snap some characteristic night shots. As you can imagine my very honest answer was "No need to say it, I was already planning to bring it!"
Although I was really looking forward to take some photos right the way, the first stop was at the Haribo candy store! I always thought that Haribo were produced in Dusseldorf (don't ask why, that's what I simply believed until two days ago), but I got a very clear and reasonable explanation: Haribo stands for Hans Riegel, Bonn.
So, after spending a reasonable amount of time in the candy store, it was almost time to head towards the restaurant for dinner. Just like any normal person, I was bringing my camera backpack and tripod to the restaurant just saying that "you never know what you can find along the way, and you might need your camera with you".
Among the several things I got to discover this weekend, I found out that Bonn is even referenced on Japanese travel-guides among the 10 best sports where to shoot cherry flowers. Honestly I didn't have the chance to see any of the other 9 places on the list yet, but this shot I grabbed on our the way to the Sushi restaurant speaks by itself.
Being on that hot-spot list actually means that the two streets covered by the cherry trees are simply packed with people! The only way to not have big crowds of tourists - like me - in the shot was to stay on the sidewalk. That actually let in the very nice building of Bonn city center.
Due to the fact that I had already been in Bonn in the past, I had the idea of taking a picture of the university building at night. Unfortunately, due to the marathon on Sunday and to the fact that the building is not lighted up at all in the evening, I had to change my plans. Anyway after dinner we went for a short walk and I managed to get to the Rhine side for this long exposure shot.
Heading back I had the chance to play a bit with the tripod and long exposures for a couple of interesting shots.
On Sunday, thanks to a pretty clear sky and warm sun, it was just a pleasure to pass once again under the pink flowers and look up for very nice color contrasts.
It was funny to see the difference in number of people between the streets with cherry trees and without. Reality is that without the pink flowers no one - but me - was interested at taking pictures of the streets.
It was almost time to call the day when few more details were brought to my attention.
As it often happens with weekend breaks, once you start to enjoy them, they're already gone...
What else could I add? Thanks again for the hospitality and let it be Bonn.
